Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges

Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges are part of the lands of the Kulin Nation. The Kulin Nation is a collective of five Aboriginal language groups:  Wurundjeri, Boonwurrung, Wathaurrung, Taungurung and Dja Dja Wurrung.  Their collective territory extends around Port Phillip and Western Port, up into the Great Dividing Range and the Loddon and Goulburn River valleys. The Kulin Nation has inhabited the area for an estimated 40,000 years and prior to colonisation was a Nation or more than 20,000 people. The Nation was connected through commonalities in Dreamtime, moieties, Country and language. Bunjil the wedge-tailed eagle and Waa the crow are significant to all groups in the Kulin Nation. Bunjil is the creation spirit of the Kulin and Waa the protector of the waterways.

Wurundjeri, Taungurung and Dja Dja Wurrung are the Traditional Custodians of the area with all three groups residing in different areas in Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges. Central to all three language groups is Hanging Rock which is as significant as Uluru for Kulin people. Wurundjeri, Taungurung and Dja Dja Wurrung are all Traditional Custodians of the area, as Hanging Rock is on the boundaries of these three language groups and is significant to all as a site of ceremony, initiation, politics and commerce.

Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges are just an hour north east of Melbourne is affectionately known as Spa Country. From Daylesford to Hepburn Springs, Trentham to Woodend, Mount Macedon to Kyneton and many charming villages in between, there is a huge amount to do all packed into a small region.
