What to expect

As the sun sets low over the Great Dividing Range to the west of Cairns, meet your local Mandingalbay Yidinji guide and push off from Cairns Marina in a new covered River Cruise vessel, bound for East Trinity Reserve.

Cruise across from the Marina to discover an Indigenous Protected Area where ancient knowledge meets science to deliver world-first conservation programs.

Mandingalbay Yidinji Country includes a great diversity of environments — marine areas, mangroves, freshwater wetlands, rainforest clad mountains, coastal plains, beaches, reefs and islands, covering a total of almost 10,000 hectares.

Journey along an avenue of ancient mangrove forests to the Stingray Shelter, an off-grid architecturally award-winning structure, and enjoy the ancient Mandingalbay custom of a Welcoming to Country and Smoking Cleansing Ceremony. Listen to Mandingalbay Yidinji rangers speak of ancient language and practices and learn about traditional tools, instruments and weapons made from the land.

Indigenous inspired canapes and refreshing beverages will be served throughout the evening by the Mandingalbay team.

Enjoy a fusion of traditional and contemporary inspired, local sourced delicacies such as Thai style Kangaroo with green papaya salsa, smoked crocodile, Tableland pork belly, green ant salmon gravlax and seared Queensland scallops, even mud crab and barramundi in banana leaf (sample menu only). Beverages include alcoholic and non-alcoholic options.

As you cruise peacefully back through the beautiful mangrove lined waterways into Cairns enjoy the glow of the city’s lights, under the stars and from a completely different perspective with a deeper appreciation for culture and Country.
