Join Aunty Pat Torres who has family connections to Djugun, Yawuru, Nyul Nyul, Bard, Jabirr Jabirr and Ngumbarl people in and around the Broome region, West Kimberley for a transformative experience. Aunty Pat is a writer, artist, illustrator, educator, bush tucker specialist, and most significantly a Djugun/Jabirr Jabirr female Elder and custodian of her ancestor’s cultural stories and connection to Country.
This women’s tour provides female visitors with the opportunity to come together and learn about local culture, history and Country. Aunty Pat will share the intricate stories, nature and beauty of women’s Aboriginal culture in a two hour immersive Broome experience exclusively for women.

What to expect
Meeting first at the Mary Minyarl Centre in Broome before heading down to Reddell Beach by car (a vehicle is required, 2 wheel-drive is suitable) and taking a short (easy grade) walk down the pathway to the beach. Here is where you will be immersed in a Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony and Water Ceremony. Aunty Pat will take you through each of these ceremonies explaining their meaning and the positive impact it can have on your personal well-being.
Following these ceremonies Aunty Pat will share with you women’s stories of this culturally significant site, including a short walk up the beach. Sample some bush tucker refreshments such as Rosella or Davidson Plum cordial and sweet treats, specifically known for their healing properties for women’s health. The tour will conclude with learning some language words and a question and answer session will complete this powerful cultural immersive experience.
What is included
This 2 hour experience runs from April to October each year.
Scheduled departures:

Jarndu Ngaank Women’s Talk Tours are an Aboriginal women’s-led cultural immersion experience. They will provide you a better understanding of Aboriginal culture from a senior female cultural Elder’s experiences, that you can take back home and share your stories and insights with others.
Your tour guide, Pat Torres has family connections to Djugun, Yawuru, Nyul Nyul, Bard, Jabirr Jabirr and Ngumbarl people in and around the Broome region in the West Kimberley. She is a writer, artist, illustrator, educator, bush tucker specialist, and most significantly a Djugun/Jabirr Jabirr female Elder and custodian of her ancestor’s cultural stories and connection to Country.
Pat is the Founder and CEO of Mayi Harvests, a sustainable producer of native edibles. Pat learnt about medicinal bush food knowledge from her mother, grandmother and extended family while growing up on her traditional Country to the north and south of Broome.
Pat is an Elder woman, a custodian of stories, a descendant of the areas on which these tours take place, through her ancestral lineage she has an intense and intricate knowledge of this Country; it is part of her heritage and she has a right and a responsibility to continue the line of stories and to ensure the tours are conducted in a culturally safe way, with protocols and respect to those who have gone before her.
Pat’s passion is to share the intricate nature and beauty of Aboriginal culture from a woman's perspective, teaching guests about the sacredness of the land and the deep spiritual connection to it.
